Ruth Galm’s work is obsessed with existence, un-vaunted landscapes of the modern American West, gender oppression, and counternarratives. Her novel INTO THE VALLEY, published by Soho Press in 2015, earned starred reviews from Publisher’s Weekly and Booklist, and was hailed by ELLE magazine as “[m]esmerizing . . . a subtle and complicated exploration of what it means to be a woman and, more specifically, what it means to be a woman without a man.” Her writing has appeared in the Kenyon Review Online, Indiana Review, and Joyland, and her story “New Mexico, 1957” received special mention in Best American Short Stories 2016. Galm holds an MFA from Columbia University and has earned fellowships from the Ucross and Brush Creek foundations. She lives in Portland, OR with her son, and is finishing a second novel.
