Emily Somers (January 25, 1986 – May 16, 2024) called me in the dark fall of 2016 and blew my life open. A dream champion of my imagination as translated to film, and then a beloved friend. She understood my novel on a cellular level, inviting my collaboration for her feature and short film scripts, then hustled tirelessly to get it to the screen. Before cancer stormed her body. The short film, directed by wild talent Emily Sandifer, was a proof of concept for a feature that screened at festivals internationally and won awards; Emily won for Best Feature Screenplay at the Atlanta Women’s Film Festival.
